Minangkabau Traditional Clothes
The Minangkabau tribe community from the West
Sumatra province whose capital is in the city of Padang is known to be very
strong in maintaining its own customs and culture. One of the customs and
culture that they still maintain is for example in matters of dress. That's why
I chose Minangkabau traditional clothing. The very well-known Minangkabau
traditional clothes are called Bundo Kanduang clothes or Limpapeh Rumah Nan Gadang. The design is unique, especially located on the head covering which
resembles the shape of a buffalo horn or the roof of a gadang house. Bundo kanduang
clothes are Minangkabau traditional clothes worn by married women. While for
men and for a pair of brides, other types of clothing are also known. The
meaning of Minangkabau traditional clothing is a symbol of greatness for the
wives. Clothing is a symbol of the importance of the role of a mother in the
family. The traditional clothes of Bundo Kanduang or Limpapeh Rumah Nan Gadang have different designs from each sub-tribe and are almost the same as the
Minangkabau traditional clothes of the child. The clothing lies in a special
catch namely tingkuluak (tengkuluk), batabue, minsie, lamb or sarong,
salempang, dukuah (necklace), galang (bracelet), and several other accessories.
While the traditional clothes for men are called
clothes upstream. As the name implies, this garment is only used by traditional
elders or certain people, where in the way of its use it is regulated in such a
way by applicable customary law. This outfit consists of several equipment
including Deta, black clothes, sarawa, side by side, brawny, clothing, kris,
and legs.
